More info on LJ hijackings...

Anyway, for anyone who's been wondering why LJ decided to make such a drastic change to their URLs here's a blog entry by Washington Post Computer Security writer that explains things in more detail:

Account Hijackings Force LiveJournal Changes

In a nutshell, there's not too much you can do, but from the article it sounds like you should be careful when clicking on random HTML links. Those links allow the hackers to steal the cookie that identifies you to LiveJournal and allows them to access your account. The only sure way to prevent this is to disable Javascript on your browser all together, but of course that makes using LJ really difficult. :/

So be careful out there and let's hope LJ plugs the security holes.
