Yay! They finally released the final version of the Chevy Volt!
It's not quite as sexy as the original Volt Concept Car that I saw in San Diego, but that was to be expected.
But I still love the fact that you can go 40 miles on battery power alone. After 40 miles, it'll use the gas generator to run the car. So for short commutes to work and such I would never need to gas up. For long trips to SoCal for AX or Comic Con, I can just treat it as a normal car and gas up like I normally do. With the added bonus that it would get something like 40 miles per gallon.

VIDEO: Walkthrough of 2011 Chevy Volt interior
Looks like they dropped the suicide doors and made it more of a 4 door instead, which is fine with me.
What's really interesting is the interior. They'll use two large 7" LCD screens for the dash board as well as the center column. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet, I mean it admittedly looks cool and hitech, but I'm so used to an analog speedometer.
I guess we'll have to see.
Of course the biggest hurdle is the fact that the car is going to cost $40,000. :-/ Waaay more then the initial estimate of "under $30,000." There's talk of a federal $7,500 rebate for electric/hybrid cars of this class, but that's not for certain. And will the total cost of ownership offset the cost of gas? What will be the repair and service costs be like.
Well either way, I have until 2011 to decide and save up. :)
