So I convinced her to do a beauty shoot with me before she did. Good thing too, her appointment is next week. LOL
It also gave me a chance to try a few different lighting techniques and I think the results turned out wonderfully!
Also, before anyone asks, the "blur" is not Photoshop. I was using my Canon 50mm/f1.2L lens. That gives crazy thin depth of field. There's actually a few shots where the focus "missed" and the eyes are not in focus, but say an ear is. >_< It's an awesome lens, but you gotta be super careful with the focus when it's that wide open.Originally posted on www.divideby0.com: photo blog.
Some Black and White/Noir Style shots
It's funny. I was a trying to do the shadow type shots, but it just wasn't working the way I wanted to when we were shooting. At least it didn't seem that way on my camera's LCD, so we cut this part short. Then I look at the "test shots" on the computer and THEY TOTALLY LOOK AWESOME! -_-
Oh well, live and learn.
Hello fan service. ;-)
Test shot. LOL
Who's the boss? ;-)
The "studio" for this shoot. LOL Since it was a beauty shoot and it was going to be all shoulder's up shots anyway, I didn't need a lot of space to shoot this, just a seamless backdrop and creative lighting.
Being your own worst critic
So I'm sure a lot of you didn't notice this, but I should have paid better attention to the catchlights in Sarah's eyes. You'll see in #5 that if you zoom in to Sarah's eye (sorry, I know you never thought anyone would zoom this close to someone's eye!) You can literally see me taking the photo! LOL
This was because I was standing in front of a large white reflector that I was using to light Sarah. I couldn't use a direct flash even with a beauty dish because at ISO 100, 1/200th, f1.2 there was just too much light so I had to diffuse it a lot.
I much prefer a nice and round catchlight like the one in #3.
Next time! :>
But other then that minor nitpick, I'm really happy with out the photos turned out! You can actually see the texture of her skin! What a concept! Too often do I see photographers (cosplay and fashion) blur tool out the bejeezus out of someone's skin to the point where they don't look human anymore.
You have no idea how that pisses me off! LOL
